Although your vehicles model number is clearly badged on the rear of your BMW, they are further categorised internally into E / F and G model codes. This three digit combination will usually allow specialists or dealers to identify the body style, model and approx age.

This simple list will help you identify your BMW E / F and G model code. Our website (within any article / explanation) will always reference the vehicle using the main body code (indicated in bold).

E-Series, regular passenger vehicles:

E87 / E81 / E82 / E88 – 1-Series – 2004 – 2011.

E46 – 3-Series – 1998 – 2005.

E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 – 3-Series – 2005 – 2011.

E39 – 5-Series – 1996 – 2002.

E60 / E61 – 5-Series – 2003 – 2009.

E63 / E64 – 6-Series – 2004 – 2009.

E38 – 7-Series – 1994 to 2001.

E65 / E66 – 7-Series – 2001 – 2007.

E31 – 8-Series – 1990 to 1999.
