Split-Screen and Full-Screen CarPlay

BMW’s standard CarPlay operates in split-screen mode. However, for those who prefer full-screen CarPlay, we offer the following options:

Full-Screen Upgrade:

• For vehicles manufactured in 2019 or later: Free full-screen activation upon request.
• For vehicles manufactured earlier than 2019 that has not previously had a software update: Firmware update required at an additional cost of £130 inc VAT.

To check if your head unit supports full-screen CarPlay, ensure it is running firmware version ‘N’ or later. Here’s how to check your firmware version:

1. Go to Navigation.
2. Choose Map.
3. Press the Options button.
4. Select Navigation settings.
5. Scroll to Position and version.
6. Select Version information.

I took my BMW 4 Series to Grosvenor Motor Company in order to have Apple CarPlay retrofitted.  I am well over an hour from there, but couldn't find anywhere more local with good reviews. I emailed them to ask for details and confirm it could be done on my car.  Once confirmed, a quick phone call booked it in. As I needed to work that day, I dropped at 8am - an easy process - and then walked the 15 minutes into Reading centre where I used a collaboration space (The Curious Lounge) for the day while the car was being done.  It took about half a day to get the phone call to say the car was done.  I collected it late afternoon and again it was quick and easy - everyone polite and friendly. I took my wife’s BMW i3 from Kent to Reading in order for Grosvenor BMW to retrofit Apple CarPlay. I’d looked at online videos of people carrying out the work themselves using equipment that cost almost £300 and didn’t fancy dismantling the car myself when Grosvenor BMW will do it far more professionally and, indeed, more cheaply! I dropped it off in the morning, had breakfast nearby and then a stroll around the town centre before I was told the car was ready. Having CarPlay is a real benefit for an EV, making navigating to charge points and checking their availability painless - and now thanks to Grosvenor BMW, that added functionality has made a fun little runabout so much better. Excellent service from the team, after a quote from BMW of £715 to fix the emergency call fault, I found Grosvenor online with a fixed price of £195 to replace the battery causing the fault. Was very impressed with their set up and confident in the team after reading all the great reviews. Even treated myself to a cheeky AppleCarPlay upgrade while my X4 was with them. Brilliant company who have installed Apple Car play for me and an SOS battery. Top marks
